Well, we’re now into a new membership year - 2024, and soon spring will be upon us after a long

winter season of Storms....Keeping up with storm names alone has been a full time job!

Normally, we start each season with a message from our Commodore…However, at our recent AGM, held as a virtual meeting again this year on 7th Feb, Phil Gamlen confirmed his decision to step down from the Commodore’s post to hopefully enjoy a well earned rest! I so I wanted to take this opportunity as editor to thank Phil for his service during his tenure and to remind members of the many projects Phil has overseen during the last 5 years. Steering the club through the “Covid” Years and ensuring there was a club to return to. Negotiations with Yorkshire Water to secure our lease for a further term, including an expansion of the clubhouse compound to incorporate the new Fisherman’s/Public Toilet block. Construction of solid walkway from Club house to boat park, making safety boat duty and equipment movement so much easier. Purchase of a floating pontoon to assist with training and water access. Installation of Media equipment in the Clubhouse again enhancing our features as a training centre. Our annual RYA inspection went well under Phil’s close eye as principal, vital to maintaining links with the RYA. Conversion of our newly acquired “Public Toilet” block into additional safe changing facilities, increases our capacity when schools and groups visit the club….Now known as the West Wing! Maintenance and upkeep of the club all happens in the background, but usually with Phil’s hands-on involvement. At our 2023 prize giving evening, Phil’s service was recognised by receiving the Timothy Kitson trophy for outstanding contributions to the club Although Phil is moving away from the coal face and regular committee work, he has agreed to act as our Rear Commodore in an advisory capacity to help the new committee through a transition stage. Thanks Phil….Rest assured we will be making good use of your knowledge and experience! As part of our AGM procedures and legal requirements a new committee was nominated, proposed and seconded by the members in attendance. A number of existing officers were also re-elected to their posts and we’re pleased to welcome Simon Whitby and Phil Davies onto the committee. Simon brings his experience and interest to the Paddleboarding community, whilst Phil’s extensive sailing knowledge from his Navy days will be very useful.
